Our Philosophy

Weddings may seem ubiquitous and ordinary to the outsider, but not to the ones getting married. Such drama. Such intensity. And such joy. They are rare events. To the photojournalist there is hardly a more potent subject for compelling imagery than a wedding.


Unlike some professional photographers, we don’t consider 'shooting weddings' to be a pejorative. In our own earnest way, Jock & I like going to weddings. I am a witness to an intimate, watershed event in a couple’s life. I take to heart the weight of responsibility to document the moment, respectfully and non-obtrusively.


So this is our philosophy. We are privileged guests at your event. We feel honored to be the designated witness, the documentarian. For a few hours, we will be in your periphery, probably more than any other person there. We had better be easy to be around, especially with all those cameras around our neck.


We work simply. You have us for the time you’ve chosen. We shoot as much as it takes. You get a disc of hi-res images after you get back from the honeymoon, and I get to watch you swoon over the results.


Most of the time Jock or I am hovering in the vicinity of one or the other of you, starting as early as you want. It’s less intrusive than it sounds, people generally forget we’re there and wonder where all the photos came from. We leave some time for the mandatory family shots, but these are the only posed photos of the day. We leave once we feel everyone and everything is captured. And then our work begins ……

Wedding Photography Information

What we shoot, and what you get: We photograph with a professional digital camera. I will take hundreds and hundreds of photographs. You will get an edited DVD with your images at high resolution. It takes typically 2 to 5 weeks, depending on the season. Online images generally happen within two weeks. We can do an album for you, thank you images and anything else you may think you’d like.


What about black and white? Sure. If you want some or all of the shots to be in black and white, I can convert them. Typically I do a mixed of both.

Scheduling group photos: I treat these according to the desire of the couple. For some people it is important to have every permutation of each family in a group shot, and we’ll schedule an hour or more. Others just want a basic parents-siblings group photo, and let’s-get-to-the-reception -already. At some point I’ll want to do a nice portrait of the two of you. If this is an important priority for you, we’ll book it pre-ceremony; otherwise we’ll catch it before the reception.


Throughout the day, I will be either nearby one of you (most of my time is with the bride), or roaming the crowd. Especially after the ceremony, we find it advantageous to linger behind the two of you as you get congratulated by your guests (regardless of whether you have a formal receiving line or not, everyone will want to hug you). My goal is to get at least one photo of all your guests. Before the ceremony, I will be by one of your sides as you get ready, photographing your assorted families and friends as they hover about you. I’m generally quite unobtrusive throughout this, but I can pick up when it seems you need some private time. It that fails, please kick me out. We do ask that you feed us, although we will keep your photography our priority and not miss out anything important.


During the ceremony, I shoot without a flash, generally from the sidelines, or from a place where I am not too obvious. There may be restrictions regarding photography at your site that I will need to be made aware of.

Terms: A non-refundable deposit of $500 is needed to reserve your date. Balance is due at the completion of the wedeing.

Wedding Packages

BASIC MEMORIES $450.00/up to 50 images/1 hour

IF YOUR CEREMONY IS SMALL & YOU JUST WANT TO CAPTURE A FEW FOND MEMORIES

Natural light with fill flash photography, images are provided in jpeg format in Hi-resolution on a cd rom with a release for printing. A digital slide show with emailable size images ready for you to send and will run automatically on your PC. Mac users get jpegs only. We always meet with you prior to your wedding.



CLASSIC $645.00/up to 100 images taken/up to 2 hrs

Suggestion; highlights of ceremony &/or formals, not recommended for a full ceremony/reception coverage. But great to get the important things! Natural light with fill flash photography. Images are provided in jpeg format in Hi-resolution on a cd rom with a release for printing. A digital slide show with emailable size images ready for you to send and will run automatically on your PC. Mac users get jpegs only. We always meet with you prior to your wedding and attend your rehearsal.



MINI DIGITAL $780.00/200 images/up to 3 hrs

Natural light with fill flash photography, images are provided in jpeg format in Hi-resolution on a cd rom with a release for printing. Make prints & your own album when you get home. 3 hours of continual coverage, one photographer. Some special effects included. We get a chance to create those images that make you feel like you stepped into a magazine. We always meet with you prior to your wedding.



MODERN $1100.00/up to 400 images on disc/4 hrs coverage

Good for smaller wedding partys! Natural light w/fill flash photography. Your images are provided in jpeg format in Hi-resolution on cd rom with a release for printing. Make prints & your own album when you get home. Our digital slide show format will run automatically on your PC platform, for MAC users we provide jpegs only. 4 hours of continual coverage, one photographer. We prepare and cleanup all our images before giving them to you. Some special effects included. We get a chance to create those images that make you feel like you stepped into a magazine. We always meet with you prior to your wedding.



DELUXE $2,150.00/up to 400-600 images/up to 5 hrs

If your photography is important to you and so is your budget. We want to capture that for you both. You will be provided with a disc (or DVD) of your event in HI-RESOLUTION and a release for your images, along with emailable size images to send to your friends. Natural light w/fill flash. We will attend your wedding rehearsal and meet with you to discuss details. We prepare and cleanup our images before giving them to you. We add our special effects, such as drop tone, sepia, single color separation or black & white to selected images.



DIGITALLY COMPETE

$2,400.00/UNLIMITED images/ up to 6 hrs/ 2 photographers

A very important day filled with love and expectation. We want to capture that for you both. Up to six continual hours coverage of your event. You will be provided with a disc (or DVD) of your event in HI-RESOLUTION and a release for your images. No album or prints just your images in hi-res jpeg format along with emailable size as well to send to your friends. Natural light w/fill flash, one location included on property. Highlight of your rehearsal dinner if you wish , included. This is not transferable. We will attend your wedding rehearsal and meet with you to discuss details. We prepare and cleanup our images before giving them to you. We add our special effects, such as drop tone, sepia, single color separation on black & white.



A VERY SPECIAL DAY

$3,100.00/unlimited coverage for up to 8 hours/2 photographers

You are having a large wedding event, large bridal party, many guest and you want to have full coverage (also for those who couldn’t be with you)! We can even attempt to get a group shot with all your guests! The two of us will attend to all going on. We take that little extra to give a few more wedding party poses as well as bridal couple poses. Whether you prefer to have your “Formals” done before the wedding or you want to stage him seeing you for the first time before you walk down the isle, just to take the jitters away! We can accommodate you. Hi-resolution images are provided on CD rom. We will provide 2 highlight discs for the parents.


A "Thank You" Image can be designed as well. Natural light with fill flash photography is used. All locations are included on hotel properties (different beach or church additional charge applies). With this package we add our special effects to some digital images, such as "drop tone", sepia, single color on Black & White, even special frames. Coverage of your wedding rehearsal dinner (if you have one), this is not transferable, along with attending your rehearsal and meeting with you prior to your wedding.

SPECIAL EVENT PACKAGE $400.00 Rehearsal dinner (or just a gathering) for up to 3 hours of coverage with Hi-res images included & provided on disc .



TRANSPORTATION EXSPENSES – We do travel to other locations. The cost involved in travel, lodging and food must be considered separately from the packages above. We do not put a markup on travel fees.

A quote will be provided.



All completed work will be put in hand before you leave or FEDEX direct to you, unless otherwise arranged. Standard courier charges to your destination will apply.

TIPS for Wedding Photography

Here, Pam Hall shares some great tips about Photography:

"Weddings are a great way to create photos that people will treasure. I learn at least two things every time I shoot a wedding and have a great time doing so."




Brides & Groom's
1. Practicing putting on rings in the following manner:
 a. Hold from underneath
 b. Reach underneath your lover's hand and hold their wrist with your free hand
 c. Slide the ring onto their finger
 d. Hold their fingers together under the ring
 e. Doing this will save you some "How do I do this?" anxiety, make your hands look great and give the photographer lots of time to get photos

2. Look at your smile in the mirror
 a. A small smirk works better than a grin, especially when you are hot and tired and trying to get through the tenth group photo still looking like the world's most fabulous couple. Seeing the difference helps so use the mirror.



Bride's Checklist
1. Hold your bouquet at or below your bellybutton. The temptation is to hold it too high.

2. Removing a veil may affect your hairstyle

3. Anything that can wave can block your face. Leaving your hair down or having a veil on a windy day will mean that some photos are unusable.

4. Blonde hair dye + Chlorine-filled pool water = GREEN HAIR

5. Consider how your tan lines will look in your wedding dress



Groom's Checklist
1. Relax and have a great time. The tension of the big day and being on camera is a lot to handle. Fun is not the word that comes to mind. Still, here are two things that go a long way to making it fun:
 a. Think of the photos as an investment. A few minutes and a good attitude can turn into a photo that stays in your wallet for years.
 b. Concentrate on her. Think about the reasons you fell in love with her. Remember your favourite date (or how it ended). It will show on your face and you won't have to fake a smile.



The key to easy Group Photos
1. Make a list of the number of group photos you want before hand and who will be in each

2. Share the list with the photographer and discuss the best time and
location for your group photos

3. Remember to consider guests with health or mobility issues


4. Work from the largest group to the smallest and insist that people who are not going to be in any more photos leave. They usually slow down the process and make the people being photographed uncomfortable.

5. Some tips for easy, timeless group photos
 a. Consider the timing and location carefully. The best time is probably right after the ceremony outside the church or outside the reception site. That way you are already moving everyone around. The timing should ensure that everyone still looks their best.
 b. Make a list, give it to the photographer and stick to it. Yes weddings are a great time to get shots of the relatives that never visit but save some of your energy for the portraits.



Information and items to give to your photographer
1. Give the photographer a clear idea of what is important to you, especially in the following areas:
 a. Décor
 b. Your cake
 c. Your Locations
 d. Sentimental items (A chair reserved for someone who could not be there)
 e. If possible email photos or examples to the photographer.

2. Send the photographer and itinerary with the following info
 a. Locations and what time of day (or at least order) you expect to be in those locations

b. Special events (fire dancer, a song from a guest)

c. Items for the photographer
 d. Invitations and other stationary (mail ahead of time if possible)
 e. Toys, keepsakes, gifts (Set aside one of each for photos. Afterwards then can be used as intended)



Consultant's checklist
1. Establish a safe zone and keep unwanted people out of the photo zones.
2. Ask guests not to stand during the ceremony to take photos
3. Keep the photographer informed
 a. Before cutting the cake, first dances

Why megapixels are only half the story
Pixels per inch (ppi) or Dots per inch (dpi) of final images matter more than knowing the megapixel number. Images should be at least 200dpi and are often higher, depending on if and how much the image was cropped.


Wedding Photography in The Bahamas

There are two things to remember about Bahamian weather:
1. It's hotter than you think
2. It's hotter than that

If it is not overcast or windy it will be hot as the sun never goes away. The heat is difficult for guests, especially if they are sitting in the sun, waiting on a bride. This is worse for people with age or health considerations. To address this, try to have an area where guests and vendors can wait in the shade before the ceremony starts. You may also want to provide fans or bottled water.



Photographs in the heat
1. Sand + heat = exhaustion
 a. Multiply by a tuxedo and a wedding dress and you get aggression or at least impatience

2. Make sure you can find shade, either in a location or carry an umbrella

3. Shoot groups separately while the bride and groom cool off, fix make-up

4. Bring the couple in to do their photos last

5. Know what group shots there are or, more likely, have a time limit



Time of day
1. Check the sunset time
 a. It becomes too dark to shoot about 30-40 minutes before the actual listed time



Rain
1. The Bahamas can have sudden, heavy showers that last a minute, just long enough to soak every inch of preparation

2. Less often, we have more steady rain, often the case as the temperature changes from hot to cold or vice versa.

3.It is wetter in the summer than in the winter.


4. In my experience, if the bride is willing to stay in it, my equipment is safe. There have been a few close calls but not many. Once there is somewhere dry where vendors may retreat then usually rain is doable, if challenging.
